Portland Oregon: Expanding Business And 'keeping It Weird'

By Patrick Oshanahan

Looking to do some business in Portland Oregon? There are worse cities to choose from, that's for sure. DMA Portland is a recently incorporated sales and marketing company in Tigard, OR (a suburb of Portland, OR) and shard some of their insight as to why a person or company would choose to do business in Portland, OR.

I'll get to DMA Portland Oregon in a bit. Here are some general stats about the city. Out of all of the other cities in Oregon, Portland is the most populated city. The metro area of Portland is ranked #3 in the Pacific Northwest, outranked only by Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC. The metropolitan population of Portland Oregon's comes in at number 23 (just like Michael Jordan) when put up against all of the other metro areas in America. Portland Oregon has nearly 2.3 million people in its midst.

Notable facts and nuances of Portland include the 'planet-friendly' communities, the 'weirdness' of the people and activities, and the use of the land. To the North, Seattle has many nifty history factoids, but Portland Oregon has its own as well! For instance - Portland was founded near the Oregon Trails endpoint (makes sense).

As stated above, the cleanliness of city is definitely to be noted. When people visit Portland Oregon for the first time, they are blown away at how many people care about the environment and their surroundings. Not to mention, the city itself has been named one the most GREEN communities in the world.

As for the great use of land, the city takes pride in its roadways and easily accessible highway infrastructure. Not only that, the city has spent a great deal of money investing in the light rail system. This serves as a 'greener' and more efficient mode of transportation for the many commuters in Portland Oregon.

If you've ever heard of, or seen, the show 'Portlandia,' then you probably are aware of the 'weirdness' of the city. The catch phrase (but not officially endorsed) of Portland Oregon is "Keeping Portland Weird." There are several nuances that help keep the city 'weird,' from many of the young adults wearing skinny jeans and non-prescription eyeglasses to the many local microbreweries and micro-distilleries.

According to DMA Portland, they chose Portland as a place to start the company due to the fantastic vibe of the city and the number of talented employees. With a metro population of nearly 2.3 million, DMA Portland is able to recruit more top talent. The bigger the candidate pool, the more 'choosy' you can be.

DMA Portland focuses on developing its employees into future forerunners of business. The most successful employees are given part ownership of the company and enjoy profit sharing on an executive level. Some of these employees have only been with the company a few years. In order to grow a successful business like that, it takes top talent. Portland has been found to have a large number of college grads looking for work, so that works out fairly nice for the company.

DMA Portland opened its doors with only a few employees and has grown tremendously since then. It turns out that Portland Oregon is full of entrepreneurial-minded individuals who are willing to put forth the work to see the fruits of their labor later down the road. How has the company grown so quickly? Its primarily due to the teamwork and cooperation of the individuals within the company. Portland OR has many great happy hour places that help the employees meet and brainstorm new ideas and innovative improvements on systems. Employees are able to build stronger bonds around some cheap eats and drinks, you know? Teamwork and cooperation has been a major key in the company's success.

So if you are just visiting Portland Oregon for business purposes, maybe to do some sales or something, enjoy! However, if you are looking to relocate or expand your current operations, Portland Oregon is a great place to do business.
