The Lab Specimen Collection Guidelines

By Amanda Baird

In every kind of laboratory tests, every people are trained in the best way that they can be. This is because they play an integral part in the testing the urine sample of different patients. It will determine if a person is currently sick or not. It will also determine if the condition is worse or not. Here are some of the guidelines that are followed in lab specimen collection.

All of the collection or the transport containers are should be free from dust or particles. Otherwise, the whole analysis will determine that a person is likely to be invaded with a myriad of bacteria in the entire system. That will lead to the speculation that a person has to go through treatments so that he will get better.

Also, there is this crucial need that very container that shall be used are new and cleaned. Not the reused one because the chance is high that the proper analysis will not be done. That might lead to the false speculation of the certain specimen of someone.

The lid is needed to be secured. It should also be leak resistant to avoid the possibilities of leakage. Which is not appropriate especially when a person had a hard time to pee and he had to do it all again because the contents got spilled due to a leak.

To avoid the breakage, avoid using the glass. Not only that they are quite expensive. But also, they could break easily. Plastics are needed for this one because they could easily be thrown out after use. And also, there is the impossibility that lies there that it is not going to break, never in a million light years.

Other substances should not also leach onto the vial. Chances are, they are also going to affect the whole examination that will led to another false result. Again, they had to be free from any substances so that the optimal level of the testing will take place.

Also, when conducting the examination of the specimen, they have to be compatible with the automated systems. There are these equipment that were made exclusively for the use of a certain containment This will provide the most efficient result that will be conducted by the medical people themselves

Also, the proper labeling should be conducted. Meaning, they have to be labeled with the information of whose urine it is. The name should be written outside that will be visibly seen by a medical person. This is to avoid the confusion as well as another false result.

Indeed, there are many things that are considered before the lab specimen collection takes place. They had these guidelines in which each one of them has to follow. Otherwise, another mistake will occur that is going to affect both of the examiner and the patient in a grave way. To avoid the possibilities of mistakes, guidelines are needed. This will keep them away from the negative consequences caused by not following guidelines
