Business Changing In America

By Hedrick Lepsch

Accounting is a very competitive career to enter now days as more and more students are entering the market with a college degree in accounting. Although a degree can get you far it takes a lot more than that in order to be competitive in this field than just a degree.

When you are pursuing a finance education, you should be well aware of how to study for your classes and prepare yourself for your tests so you can be successful. Don't be afraid to do research before you even set foot in one of your finance class rooms.

While change has been seen in this shift it has also been apparent in the technology. Not only has technology brought better customer service and conveniences of communication in businesses but it has also brought with it all around new markets to enter.

Technology has brought a wealth of information to the doorsteps of businesses. Those who have capitalized on these opportunities have found much more than added innovation but a whole new way of doing business. An amazing thing happened as America increased its technological output. People were able to store all of their files (which they stored in a filing cabinet before) , in their personal computers.

A strong attention to details gives your employers a feeling of security and will provide you with opportunities to progress. It is the bases for becoming a real "authority" in your area.

By getting to know the industry, you can be sure that you are able to feel comfortable with your career choice as you are pursuing your education. Once you have worked in the field for a while, it is necessary that you get the education that you need to progress within the field.

Another major change that occurred in America with the technological advances was the beginning of outsourcing. This allowed business to lower costs and use human capital even as far as India. How many times have we gotten a telemarketer calling us with little to no understanding of the English language? This is a perfect example of outsourcing.

Regardless of when you are interning, take time to get to know professionals and understand what your career may look like. Understanding where your career could go can help you decide if the field of finance is where you know that you are going to want to end up.

Fifth- Presentation may not seem like a necessary skill as our view of most accountants is an individual who is in the office not working with people that much, but it is important to know how to present material you work on in a coherent manner. Many struggle to simplify and clarify concepts for people who are otherwise illiterate to the world of accounting. Sixth-Writing is also important for the same reason that presentation is important. You need to be able to communicate with those around you in a way that helps them understand what is going on with the business around them.

Getting your degree in accounting can give you a good start but it really will take a lot more experience and fine tuning in order to make a strong career as an accountant. If you have the skills suggested above with the education you are on the right track for having a successful experience as a true blue-in-the-face accountant.
