Street Lighting And Its Importance

By Essie Osborn

Paths and roads are fitted lamps that are fixed on long posts which are meant to provide light to street users. The putting off and on these lamps is normally controlled from one central position. In recent development they have been improved in such a way that they can control themselves by sensing when its dark so that they can light up and switch off when its day time. Street lighting is important in that it save people from accidents and reduce wrongdoings.

These lights are not only meant to light up at night, but can also automatically turn on when there is dark weather. These bulbs are normally placed on some tall poles alongside the roads though some may also be fitted on utility poles.

Information from research carried out by people from drivers, pedestrians and bikers has it that when there is enough light in the street crime reduces in a great way. It is based on the fact that when the roads are clear for one to see it reduces fear for crime doers are afraid of being seen in much light.

The intensity of the much light the bulbs put on the roads though emit though should be controlled. Lamps that produce extremely high amount of light and makes one not to see properly are not to be used. The inability to see well will make many people tense. The preferred light is one which can eliminate the presence of shadows for this makes one feel much safe.

These lamps may cost a lot to fix and make sure they are maintained in good condition. Although it is not easy to really estimate or know which types of crimes are prevented by lighting or even put a cost on the benefits of the fear cut down, these lamps still remains essential not only to the victims but other people too.

Other than cutting down the crime rate, these lights have been seen to make people work for long hours a day for there is no fear of returning to their homes and where they are working and this brings about development. It simply would turn a city into an all round the clock economy. Another consequence of this lighting is reducing of night times accidents which makes sure the people building the economy are secure.

Form the conducted research there has been proof that it aids in reducing the rate of accidents occurrences. This could be true considering that many of the injuries from accidents are normally during the night. It is known that at night the road rules may be bended since there are rarely police men on the roads and hence the drivers are at liberty to do whatever they want. However, though this may be done the essential of light remains important in helping cut down accident rate.

The whole summary of these leads us to concluding presence of light is at the favor of the public and if anything it should be improved in all areas. However, there are some environmental related reasons why organizations would like light reduced but the security reason outweighs them all.
