How You Can Set Up a Farmer Cart

By George Dodson

When you are driving your car, have you noticed a small stand sitting at the side of the road? Someone was selling something such as tomatoes, cantaloupe, or some other form of vegetable and fruit.

These farmer stands help greatly in small communities. As soon as the produce ripen or it becomes ready for the picking, it is immediately being sold. It then should be sold or consumed as early as possible to avoid spoilage. For that reason, farmers often put up these little stands so they can sell their excess produce to customers who happen to come along. Since the produce are fresh, goods sold on farmer stands taste much better then from those sold at supermarkets. More often than not, these fruits do not use pesticides as well as other chemicals.

If you happen to live in a small community and you grow your own crops, how do you start your own farmers stand?

The first thing you want to consider is location. Would you like to set up your stand at the local farmers market? If you want to put it up at the local market then you will need to consider a small fee. Furthermore, if you choose to sell at the local market you'll be working with a lot of competition. Setting your stand at the end of the driveway is also a good idea. Travelers can easily notice your sign of your stand. As long as you got plenty of parking space, they'll stop and check out what you've got to sell.

What is the ideal produce to sell? What are the produce commonly bought by travelers? Among those that travelers love to purchase from farmer stands are fruits such as apples and oranges and vegetables such as tomatoes, corn and cantaloupe. You will be looking at a good opportunity to profit if you decide this selection.

When would you like your farm stand to be established? What day in the week or what week in the month would be the ideal time to establish a farm stand? Is it in the evening or the morning? You'll probably want to do some testing here. Ask other farmers who love running farm stands. You might even go on the Internet and read the information there. Farm stands are located all over the world and there are actually lots of people who can share info about it.

What would be the price for your goods? If possible, try to keep your prices at a minimum for you to be able to sell your goods. A good example is selling a produce good for as cheap as half or a quarter of a dollar. You can also sell by the box or carton depending on the produce your advertising.

It would also be best if you start off with a small quantity of fruits and vegetables and check from there the results. You will then be able to come up with a suitable list of fruits and vegetables that people would love to buy. By doing this process you are able to provide the customers needs accordingly and you are able to run your business smoothly without having to spend much.
