Is Music Good Or Bad For Studying

By Jim Thorpe

Putting things off to the last second is done for a number of reasons, either you just have too much on your plate, you enjoy the thrill of having to rush to get things done, or else you just completely forget about things until the last minute.

First off, take good notes, preferably by hand. Studies have shown you are more likely to remember something if you have written it down-not typed it out. While you are writing your notes, it is a good idea to write any question or personal conclusions you gain in the margins.

Don't be bothered by your different studying habits, if something helps you to be more successful, do that thing, no matter how others feel about it. That is, unless that thing is cheating. Finding your individual best way to study is a great way to ensure your success as you begin college and through your entire college experience. In your college life, you have the opportunity to find yourself, wherever you may be.

The tools you discover in college can help you throughout your life. Understanding the way you learn and communicate will help you to excel in whatever you pursue, and to stand out from the crowd.

When a test is looming around the corner, you should review your notes over a period of a few days. Better yet, review your notes with classmates. That way you can help answer one another's questions and relieve anxiety over the coming test.

Organization Even if being unorganized isn't the main reason that you end up procrastinating, it is your best defense against procrastination. When you are organized, you are able to think much clearer and you can better schedule and prioritize in your mind. Disorganization actually increases stress levels which will make you much less efficient and will further cause procrastination.

Incentivize It's easy to keep putting things off till the last second, but when you incentivize and reward yourself for getting things done by a certain time; you are much more likely to build good habits with deadlines. This can also help you change things up and bring some excitement in your life.

If you find that music works for you, remember to be careful of songs with lyrics when you are studying a language. Because lyrics and foreign language require the same part of your brain, you may find yourself getting more easily distracted, even if music usually works for you.

Don't wait until the last minute to start studying or to complete your homework. You are more likely to get better grades and be less stressed during tests if you learn to study consistently every day for small periods of time.

By choosing to study this way you will remember more information, and for longer-hopefully for the rest of your life. Also how are you supposed to apply the knowledge you gained from your accounting or business administration degree to your career if you cannot remember it. Learning to study is more than learning how to pass and exam but a habit for life-long education.
