How To Make A Flower Bed With Tires

By George Dodson

If you grew up working in your parents garden, you know how much you can save in fruits and vegetables. It is relatively inexpensive and not that hard to do. You will thoroughly enjoy the freshness of a garden vegetable. Many people also have a herb garden. Store bought produce cannot be as good as that which you grow fresh from the garden. Added to this is the glow of producing your own food. Also you are the person controlling what is added to the production. You can be happy knowing the fresh produce is additive free.

Lots of people just dont have the space for lots of fruit and vegetable growing. Therefore people need to look at alternatives. Planting a garden in a range of small spaces may be an answer. A great reason for this is that you can cater for your needs but still plant more for later harvests. One good idea is to plant your garden in old tires.

Getting free old tires should be easy from many places. When getting new tires you might get old ones for only $5.00 If you plan to do some regular planting you will need about 5 tires. Large jobs will obviously need a lot more, maybe double the amount.

You might think that these old tires dont look that good. Will the neighbors not like them? There are ways of dressing them up by covering them with something that looks much better. Setting the tires in some wooden boxes would make them look better. Try making them look better by cutting the tires to look like flowers and then paint them. You can even use the rim as a stand.

Dig down to a depth of 4inches to prepare the soil, once you have decided on a suitable spot. The roots of plants need to grow as deep as possible to be healthy. Good soil is essential for planting. A local store, Home Depot or a Lowes will stock this. Planting your seeds in well fertilized soil is essential. Dont over water, but do water regularly. Your needs will be filled from the small but efficient garden. Growing your own produce instead of buying it will save you money.
