Six Things You Did Not Know About The Life Of A Dancer

By Gwen Lowe

There are very many divergent careers that one can choose to venture into. However, when you decide on one for instance, you need to be certain about the choice you are making. Dancing is one of those things you could attempt. Therefore, one of the first things you need to know about the life of a dancer is that very few of them have made it using natural talents.

It may not depend so much on whether you are talented or not. As some people will put it, it is more of your willingness to learn. In other words, you must be ready to give some of your time to learn the great moves. It is true that this field is not what it was about a decade ago. Competition has put it at a newer level where talent accounts for a small percentage.

Another thing that most people still do not know about the lives of these experts is that they exercise a lot of patience. When people join this profession, they imagine how they are going to be assigned very big roles. However, it can be discouraging when you realize that you are only allowed to take part in the minor roles, or those you never anticipated. That is just a learning stage.

There are instances where you will feel you are ripe and ready for all acclamations. To your surprise, you will get very few compliments regarding your improvement. That does not mean that people are not appreciating you. You just have to understand that it takes people quite some time before they notice change. This is another instance where danseurs are seen to exercise so much patience.

When you talk to some of the most acclaimed danseurs, they will attest to the fact that they live as though they are still new in the industry. Being ready to learn at all times is the secret in getting to the levels they desire. New dancing styles are released almost daily. If you are not willing to learn even from your most hated choreographer, then you do not have a bright future in that field.

You can imagine being in a career where you are never sure about the future. Most dance groups are supported by corporate firms. When these firms decide to fold their support, it becomes a big blow for the danseurs. Unless they get another firm on board, they cannot sustain their activities. That notwithstanding, they live as though the danger in their career does not exist.

As such, when these experts get on stage, they dance as though it would be their last performance. Sincerely, no one can protect against some unforeseen circumstances like deadly injuries. Most of such incidences are orchestrated by car accidents. Death could also be another career-ending blow. They have learnt to take pride in living the present moment.

Finally, it is on very rare occasions that you will control or decide the company hiring you. What is more is the fact that you will never know when you will get fired. Your fans and haters are also beyond your control.
